Photoshoot session with the Great Mormon

Great Mormon ( Papilio memnon)
Had a most interesting time photoshooting the Great Mormon butterfly today.  It is a large butterfy with exotic colours in deep ink-blue, stripes and dots included.  It was having a joyous time at the yellow ixora shrub, obviously trying to have a morning sip of its nectar.  It doesn't often drop by at the park and today's photoshoot session was an opportunity not to be missed.  Below are some more delightful captures....

Higlights today at the park - 23 Nov'14

( Note : The internet service n Bintulu especially at the park is a snail pace.  This is all that I can upload today.  No much writing because these pictures take about three hours to upload!! Xtremely poor Celcom service!!)

Photoshoot session with Malay Lacewing (Cethosia hypsea hypsina)
Today's photoshoot session with the Malay Lacewing was not arranged.  No appointment made.  But was a pleasant surprise when I encountered it at the 'Sui-Mui' plant (Wrightia religiosa).  The dangling flowers of the Sui-Mui (Cantonese) are fragrant and are produced on daily basis.  There have been many occasions when I encountered it hovering around by the plant.  The variegated lace pattern on the underside of the wings are very attractive.  The upper side is bright orange and black.

Not a clear picture but a big surprise

Rufous Woodpeccker
Location : Zone I
My dream of bumping into a surprise came through this morning.  It was the first time I managed to capture an image of a woodpecker at the park.  It was making  loud calls which were answered by another woodpecker somewhere nearby.  However my lens could only find one among the branches though in poor light.  A record would suffice.  The call was loud and was the reason how I could follow the bird as it moved from trees to trees.  The reddish-brown feathers was the main attraction.  I wish that they will come again in better light...

Permanent residents of the park

Green Pigeon

Hill Myna
It is good to be back again in Bintulu after a short holiday in Kuching.  Checking out the park this afternoon I noticed the Green Pigeon and the Hill Myna birds remain loyal to the park.  They were at their favourite perches and seemed resigned to become  permanent residents.  My hope is to see more wildlife tomorrow and to bump into more surprises....
